Behind The Lens

Location

It was taken in Serengeti, Tanzania

Time

The photo was taken around noon-ish if i can remember

Lighting

When photographing during safari many photographers tend not to photograph during harsh light hours, but the weather in Serengeti is always changing so is the light

Equipment

Nikon D800 with a Nikkor 200-400mm with beanbag for stabilization

Inspiration

I wanted to take a different lion photo, and when the lions hid behind a tree with an opening I had to be quick because the moment will go by very quickly and I wanted to have a different looking photo than everyone else

Editing

Yes, i shoot raw which usually give me pale/flat shades. So, I enhanced the highlights and shadows, and enhanced the clarity of the lion, and created a slight vignette around the photo

In my camera bag

It all depends, on what I'm planning to shoot that day, or during that trip. But usually a range telephoto, a wide angle, and two bodies of cameras. Lots of charged batteries and enough fast memory cards.

Feedback

Keep on shooting, and always try to look for something extra in your frame. Whether its action, or a behaviour or even a specific light or posture. Anyone can take a photo of a lion, but it depends on you and how you make it different than the many tourists around.
