Use a flashlight to paint the foreground in front of you. The rest is; have patience and good batteries as it gets cold in the middle of the night.Equipment

The waterfall for sure, the landscape was such as it would block out a lot of light pollution. "there is not a lot of light pollution there but there is some"Editing
Oh yes, this image took a lot of love and time, getting the photos of the sky took multiple shots and multiple settings, I had to experiment with exposures and aperture settings to get things right, I'm great at taking landscape shots, but not so much at astral photographs with a landscape in the background. Lots of burning and dodging and layers of fixing and bring out the details. the Sky was the easiest to shoot, the landscape took a bit more work and some light painting to get it to work. I'll freely admit I had no idea what I was getting into when I went to ICELAND! But I will go back better prepared to work for sure. Lovely country, Nothing like it on Earth! Lovely people! Otherworldy! In my camera bag

Well, in this case, I would say for me, it was a treasure to be there. I was awe-inspiring, and it was daunting to shoot something I've never tried to shoot before! Do a little or a lot of research and be prepared and be ready for disappointment, because the lights don't always come out to play!
