Location
This photo as been taken inside of the Charola Christ's Convent in Tomar.Time
This is my favourite image from that day, it was taken at middle of the afternoon of a sunny day. Despite i have my tripod with me, it is forbidden to use it inside the monument. I tried to take several photos at 16mm with the shutter speed as slow as i can but the results weren't "good enough" to represent the magnificence of the room. The few people inside the room at that moment look at me in a strange way as i sat on the floor searching for stability and a good angle to create "fisheye" panorama.Lighting
The sunlight was quite intense and directly in front of the point where I was taking the photo. I tried to use the light entering the windows to highlight the center of the room giving it a dramatic sensation of space.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 5D Mk III with an EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens without tripod.Inspiration
I love to visit historic places and this monument is one of the most important Convents in Portugal. One of the most important parts of the monument it the "Charola" used as the private oratory of the Templar Knights, and the original idea was to capture a wide angle shoot of the room with help of a tripod. But a couple weeks before my visit someone as damage some parts of an important stair with an tripod to do some filming a movie, and since then tripods are forbidden inside the monument. With so many visitors in that day, and the prohibition of tripod it was very hard to take a good photo and the best solution for me was to take a panorama instead of a single shoot.Editing
In this shoot i combined 14 images with panorama tool in photoshop, adjusted the center of the Charola to have straight lines, and with that it as become a bit more dynamic like an fisheye effect. When this part of editing the panorama was finished, i used lightroom to adjust the shadows and the highlights, add some clarity at center and to finish i intensified some vibrance of the colours. In my camera bag
Usually i carry a bit more gear at my bag, but in this particular day i did have my Canon 5D Mk III with my Canon EF 24-105mm f/4l is usm, EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM, and my new tripod Manfrotto befree.Feedback
Planing the visit is important, i usually search the spot and the weather conditions but i love to improvise. Im constantly surprise even when i don't bring great photos home, the pleasure of exploring while taking some photos that is always good. Depending of the place, when i visit a monument i try to explore extreme angles, some times like in this photo case i couldn't be more happy with the final result because the difficult conditions and the memories of that day.
