This was a part of a personal challenge following a set theme. The image is supposed to invoke a sense if mystery, wonder and depth, among other things--though more important intended to tell a different story depending on the viewer and what they see in the image, through a sort of minimalist approach.

Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken in Liverpool. I’d been in to photography for a long time and eventually went on to joining a beginners short course and I took this image as part of a project we were given.

Time

I don’t remember the exact time but I think it was early-afternoon.

Lighting

The sunlight was quite harsh which made it difficult to work with to a degree.

Equipment

I only used my camera (550D at the time) and a zoom kit lens. No other equipment.

Inspiration

It was something I knew I wanted as part of the project I mentioned, but the final image captured was more in the moment. I never anticipated the shot I caught to turn out as it did, but I felt I caught a great sense of depth when I caught it and managed to surpass my expectations.

Editing

Minimal contrast and clarity increase.

In my camera bag

I like to always have spare batteries, my speedlite, a nifty 50 prime, the 18-50mm kit lens and a 75-300mm zoom lens. I also carry a few lens hoods and sometimes props such as prisms.

Feedback

Be patient, take the time to consider the shot and compose a few times if you need to.
