Behind The Lens

I live and work in Dresden, a beautiful city in the East of Germany. Very close to Dresden is the national park Saxon Switzerland with it's famous table rocks, foggy mornings and Indian Summer lookalike autumns. I'm very often there and at this day on the mountain called "Carolafelsen"
I've been there after work in the late afternoon, I took this photo about half past five, just before sunset happened.
Before sunset you have great light, especially in autumn. I had natural golden light from the left and not direct from the front. So I didn't had to fight with bright and dark contrasts. With my polarizing filter I could emphasize the sky and the clouds.
Canon 450D, Sigma 10-20 mm F4,0-5,6 EX DC HSM, tripod, Hoya polarizing filter
In 2012 I visited Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and New York at Indian Summer and I said to myself: What an amazing landscape! But at home in the Saxon Switzerland you have the same colors, the mountains and lakes and the autumnal atmosphere - but everything a little bit smaller. And so I went for hiking in the Saxon Switzerland and made some colorful photos, too.
Yes, I do some corrections in photoshop. I corrected distortion, contrast and colors and I needed to stamp some water spotting, which were on the lens.
In my camera bag
My Canon 70D with my Tokina AT-X 11-16mm f/2,8 Pro DX II and my Canon 50mm F1,8. Some flash cards, filters and often I need my tripod, too.
If I travel to new places I spend a lot of time for research to find good locations. But the Saxon Switzerland belongs to my home and I know each mountain, every path and the best locations for unforgettable photos. I know this because I spend a lot of time there, went hiking, stayed there (on a mountain) and made me notice about good places. What want to say is, if you have a great region of landscape very close to your home, go to know there as often as you can.
