The National Western Stock Show held in Denver, Colorado, is rightly known as one of the best stock shows in the USA and its rodeo kicks off the Pro Rodeo season, but it is also home to one of the country’s largest horse shows. The National Western Stock Show, established in 1906, is the premier livestock, rodeo, and horse show in the nation, serving agricultural producers and consumers throughout the world.
The $20,000 RAM Invitational Freestyle Reining is one of the hottest tickets at the Stock Show. Beautiful spins and powerful stops mingled with original costumes and musical themes make up Freestyle Reining, one of National Western Stock Show’s crowd favorites. Reining was developed from the moves a cow horse is asked to perform during regular ranch duties. Competitive patterns include spins, stops, rollbacks, speed variations, and directional changes. However, unlike standard reining classes which require competitors to perform a specified pattern, freestyle reining allows exhibitors to use costumes, music, themes, props and special effects lighting to add to their presentation.

Thank you very much, Dina. These events are incredibly difficult to photograph if you have to use available light. Ther is a lot of action going on and it is all happening within a pool of light in a darkened arena. Expierience helps, but I still shoot a lot of images and hope for the best.
