Behind The Lens

I was driving to my work in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, and this is one of the lakes I drive by every day.
To see the beautiful landscape of the High Coast World Heritage every morning and how it changes by the season is just amazing and this photo is shot during an extremely colourful autumn morning.
This photo is shot on a cloudy day and therefore there are no harsh lighting or dark shadows. Sometimes you forget that a cloudy day might bring the best light you can get for a landscape shot. Especially if you are framing it so you don't see the sky.
I use my Canon EOS 7D MKII as my daily camera and to frame this shot I use Canon EF 24-105/4 L IS USM Lens. And to stabilize it and to make sure that the camera is levelled I used a tripod from Manfrotto.
In the landscape I live in with all the mountains and valleys, it's hard to not find inspiration every day. But this particular morning it was how the soft lighting really pops the vibrant autumn colours. And also, which might have been the biggest reason why I pulled the car to take this shot and that is the reflection in the lake. It's like turning everything it reflects into a painting.
When I shot landscape, I almost always shot with bracketing. So this photo contains 5 shots that are merged into an HDR in Lightroom. I also used Photoshop and Nik Collection to work with colours and contrast.
In my camera bag
I always bring my Canon EOS 7D with me together with Canon EF 100-400/4.5-5.6 L IS II USM, Canon EF 24-105/4 L IS USM and Irix 15/2.4. Basically, I have everything I need to make sure that I can take a shot no matter the subject. If it is a bird, wild animal or landscape.
Don't be afraid of cloudy skies, because that soft light can sometimes be the best light you could ask for. Especially during autumn when you want to bring the colours to life. And you don't have to have the sky in the picture either when you have a subject like the cabin in this picture - everything you need is a perfect background.
