Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Marblehead, Massachusetts during the storm Jose.

Time

It was noon. I got all ready to be at the beach by early morning, but because of the storm traveling was not easy, so I arrived at the beach around 11:30. I was very disappointed. I thought I was not able to take any nice pictures. However, the sky at noon started to open on my back and the light was very pretty and made the sea very colorful.

Lighting

It was a storm light. Very dark, but unpredictable. Glimpses of sun were coming out randomly.

Equipment

I set my camera on the tripod. However it was very windy and rainy, so I almost buried the tripod to make it stable and I was trying to cover the camera with my jacket.

Inspiration

It was just as pretty and mysterious as a storm can be. I tried my best to shot a picture that witnesses my presence at that beach during that storm, but I know I could have done much, much better.

Editing

I did saturate the raw file and contrasted the image. I believe I also straightened the image and crop what was necessary, since during the severe weather I was not able to take a perfect straight picture.

In my camera bag

Camera, lenses, Nd 4, 6, 8, 10, tripod, remote shutter, cleaning cloth, batteries, SD cards, Coke, crackers, water, jelly beans. If my baby comes with me (not during a storm...) then I also have three diapers, creams, water bottle and fruit.

Feedback

I do not have the experience to give any technical advice, but I can tell that to take something similar it's enough to be open to nature. Let nature to amaze you. During the storm breathe the electric air, feel the wind bringing the iced, salty water of the ocean to your face, be cold and shot many pictures just to remember the moment, and many others thinking about sharing them with your friends and family so that they can feel what you felt without getting too cold.
