Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Moscow on the territory of design center ARTPLAY

Time

I remember that I was making series of photos with model and then I asked her to begin smocking to make phis portrait. Probably, it was 2 o 3 pm

Lighting

I made this photo with natural light. When you are making a photo with smoke, it is better to use back light. It will make an accent on the smoke, here there was only sunlight in front of the model

Equipment

I used Canon 60D with Canon EF 50mm f/1.4. No flash, only natural light

Inspiration

When I saw Victoria first time I thought that this type of portraits with contrast, shadows and maybe smoke will be good looking images. That's all, I just decided to try to make good photo and did it

Editing

Usually portrait photography needs to be post-processed in photoshop or lightroom. This photo was converted to black and white image in photoshop. I added a bit of contrast (more clarity on smoke, 5-10 points highlights up) and made shadows bit deeper

In my camera bag

Usually I make photos on my Canon 60D, I have Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 and 18-135. I have a lot of lightning items, such as umbrellas, softboxes and etc. All of them are different size

Feedback

Portraits attracts your attention with eyes or interesting face. When you are making portraits as I did here, you should focus on eyes of a model, better to use portrait lens. But I know that you can do the same quality with 18-135 also. I recommend to use 5,6-9 parameters for diaphragm (F). ISO depends on the quantity of the light at the moment when you are making your shot. I was making this photo with Canon EF 50mm f/1.4, exposure time was 1/100 sec, f - 7,1, ISO - 640, white balance here was on auto. Actually, I think that you should try to change all parameters buy yourself and see how image will change
