Location
This photo was taken in a public pool in The Hague, while a dive school was busy giving SCUBA lessons.Time
The only time I had access to the pool was in the evening, when it was quieter in the pool.Lighting
I used several Inon 2000 underwater flashes, triggered by light.Equipment
I used a sony RX100 ii in a transparent underwater housing with light-triggered several Inon 2000 underwater flashes. One of the Inon flashes was attached to the underwater housing and triggered by an LED inside the housing. This was the only way to avoid getting a pre-flash from the camera (even in manual mode).Inspiration
Shooting underwater gives you the possibility to shoot "out of this world" photos, I love it!Editing
Some basic adjustment of contrast, clarity and vibrance. In my camera bag
My equipment differs a lot, depending on the shoot. For underwater shoots, I normally use Inon 2000 flashes. As a camera, it's either a Sony RX100 ii in a proper housing or an SLR in a soft housing (yes, it flooded...) I connected an LED to the hot-shoe of the Sony inside the housing, which triggers an underwater flash on top of the transparent housing. This flash is on minimum power and triggers the other underwater flashes. Otherwise it's INON 2000 underwater flashes on basic stands. For underwater shoots I always bring a backup camera. I also always bring extra batteries and model releases.Feedback
Everything is different under water (radio triggers don't work for example). If your model is close to a single flash you'll get a colour gradient, as red is filtered out quicker the the other colours. Be VERY patient with your model - it's harder for a model than you think!
