Location
This photo was taken at the west coast of Galicia, just 15 minutes by car from my home, sometimes you have the best scenarios around your local area.Time
The sunset that day was amazing, with a very dramatic and cloudy sky and the sun setting showing up trough a break in the clouds at the horizon while the tide was going up making me to retreat as the waves were covering that huge rock I was on.Lighting
I had to move the tripod a lot of times to avoid as much as possible sun flares as I was shooting directly into the sun.Equipment
I used my Nikon D750 with the 24-70 mm Nikkor lens. I also used the polarizing filter to cut some of the glare on the water surface and two different graduated ND filters, a 3 stops soft grad and a 4 stops medium grad, to balance the exposition between the sky and the ground/sea. Of course I had to use my tripod to take the picture and also I used a cable release to trigger the shutter.Inspiration
I think the picture explains it enough, the show that nature offers me that day was simply stunning, I had to keep a copy of that moment.Editing
I played with the white balance to achieve the orange colors of the sunset I saw, I also recovered info from the darkest areas and increased overall contrast and saturation. In my camera bag
When I go out to take some landscapes I usually take with me my camera, Nikon D750 and two lenses, the 24-70mm f/2.8 and the 20mm f/1.8. I also take with me my pack of filters, a 10 stops ND, a 3 stops soft GND a 4 stops medium GND and the polarizing filter. My tripod is a must to and the cable release is always with me too.Feedback
Patience, that would be my first advice. I had to wait a lot for the sun to be in the right position, and for the tide to get to that rock, and for the clouds to form as they are in the photo. Also explore your local area, don't dream always with big vistas all over the globe, maybe you have a great spot near you to take some great images.
