Location
Yosemite National Park, CaliforniaTime
We had a wonderful few days in Yosemite. It was shortly after record rains and snow melt in late spring of 2017. The waterfalls were full and appeared everywhere. When we got to the meadow below Half Dome it was about 4 pm and it was illuminated by the afternoon sun. Some of my previous attempt had been lacking due to the lighting. This shot I felt was a very good capture of the scale and grander of this iconic location.Lighting
Late afternoon lighting allowed for a sharper picture and detail of Half Dome. I think it provided finer detail and depth than previous attempts to do justice to to Half Dome. The dark trees in the foreground accented the grey and blue tones of the mountain.Equipment
I used my trusty Niikon 40D with a 50mm lens to shot this picture. I used a lightweight tripod to provide a steady mount but many of the pictures in this series were shot by hand or balancing on a bench.Inspiration
This was shot on a perfect day with my wife who was seeing Yosemite for the first time. The humidity was low and thus a rich blue sky. The falls all around us provided a chorus of music.Editing
This photo has no post processing outside of some cropping. The light was just perfect. In my camera bag
Nikon 40 D, 50mm lense, 400mm lens polerizing filter and sometimes a macro lens. I usually have a nice lightweight backpacking tripod, stable but flexible.Feedback
lighting, location and patience. In addition is the mindfulness of the moment and taking advantage of those small details that catch your eye and your emotion.
