Location
This was taken in my backyard garden in Wilson, NC USA
Time
This was taken about midday in early Fall a couple of years ago
Lighting
Lighting wasn't really an issue since this was a sunny September midday in eastern North Carolina. This time of year is like a late summer's day or the Dog Day of Summer. Sun was so bright that I set speed at 1/2000 sec at F2.8 for a deep intense take for the color of the butterfly.
Equipment
I used my Canon EOS 7D Mark ii setting 1/2000 speed and ISO250 and F setting at 2.8. I used a monopod to help me steady my hand and of course a flash was not necessary

Inspiration
My Roommate was busy trimming some of the bushes in the garden so I was busy snapping away with the Sorrel in bloom and mostly all flowers in bloom. He called me over to look at some of the unusual flowers when we noticed the butterfly which turned out to be a Red Spotted Purple Admiral Limenitis Arthemis
Editing
The only post processing I thought was necessary was Lightroom to balance the intense light which I used at midday and an f setting 2.8, I usually do this to get as much detail as possible thus rendering a very HDR without actually using the feature.
In my camera bag
I have my Canon EOS 7DMarkii always, equipped with 70-200mm f2.8L ii USM, additional lenses 24-70mm 2.8L, 10-18, 50mm and a Tamron SP AF90 1:2.8 1.1. I have been sick these past few months so I have not been very mobile and not required much equip.
Feedback
I live in Eastern North Carolina which is very very green and lush, I used to think this was a rain forest. My home has a pretty big garden which I maintain for my health. It attracts lots of birds and insects and because of the wide range of flowers and plants, I have a lot of subject matter at my finger tips.
