The fog I was so much hoping for didn't happen, but at least I had a decent sunrise.

Location
This photo was taken during my photo tour in Saxony, Germany in the summer of 2018. One of my must-shoot locations was the famous Bastei bridge, as shown in my image. I had the convenience to stay at the hotel there, it was only a 5 minute walk from my bed to this viewpoint.Time
I woke up two hours before (the quite early) sunrise, because I wanted to be the first photographer at the viewpoint, which offers only very limited space. 15 minutes after my arrival the crowd came in, but I had already found and secured my composition.Lighting
Sadly the sunset wasn't as beautiful as expected and the fog I was hoping for so much didn't roll in, but it could have been worse. The incoming rain clouds from the west were decent, but the sun didn't break through the clouds on the east, so I had no proper light on the bridge. Just when i wanted to leave this beautiful light appeared suddenly for maybe 20 seconds on the bridge and the rocks and I was lucky enough to capture that very special moment.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D750 on a standard tripod, the lens was a Tamron 24-70 f2.8.Inspiration
I saw a lot of beautiful pictures of this place on flickr and 500px and wanted to shoot my own version of this iconic place, mainly because those rock formations are not so common in Germany. I would have loved to have some fog, but this is not so likely during summer time.Editing
This is actually a time blend from the best looking clouds on the west and the very brief moment of good light on the bridge. During the shooting I didn't move the camera or the tripod, so it was a quite easy task to blend those two shots seamlessly. Besides that it was a standard workflow with some Lightroom adjustments, some luminosity masking in Photoshop and a little bit help of the contrast modules of the NIK collection. In my camera bag
My Nikon D750, a Nikkor 14-24, a Tamron 24-70 and a Tamron 70-200. 3 ND Filters (3X, 6X and 10X), a remote release and a flashlight.Feedback
The time blend method I learned from Elia Locardis tutorial series "Photographing the world" opened my eyes for the possibilities of post processing, which I like a lot. But you can´t process a great image out of a badly shot photo, so it is most important to shoot for optimal quality. Get yourself familiar with composition in photography, something I did way too late. Come early, stay longer, be patient, from time to time you will be rewarded like me with a brief moment of perfect light.
