Behind The Lens

I took this photo in the hallway of my home with the doors closed.
I took this photo in the afternoon, however the timing is irrelevant because there was no natural lighting involved.
I used a black light for this image. I held the black light up to my face when taking the image.
The camera that I used was a Nikon D5500. The camera was on a tripod. I used a shutter remote to take the photos because I was the subject of the photos and I couldn't be at two places at once. I painted my face with UV paint that is made for black lights. The design that I chose for my face was freehand and improvised. There was not much thought process or planning that went in to the actual act of the painting.
I was originally going to do a series of self portrait photos using the painting with light method. I saw some work done by Alex Meade where she paints her subject in to the background with acrylic paint. Her photos end up looking like the entire scene, including the model are an acrylic painting. My original idea and her style was what sparked my inspiration to use my chosen method.
There is no post-processing, photoshop, or adjustments of any sort on this image. All of the effects that you see occurred in camera.
In my camera bag
I have upgraded since this shoot. I now have a Nikon D850 with a 28-300mm lens. I always have a 50mm prime lens. I use a sb-5000 flash for low lighting with the additional 8 battery pack for decreased recycle time. I ALWAYS have a grey card and a small reflector. I keep shutter remotes in my bag because they always seem to come in handy. I keep gaffers tape and plastic bags as well because they have saved my *** more times than I can count.
My best advice would be to try and use a high powered black light because the slower the shutter speed, the more likely you are to capture blurring of the model within the image. I would also advise to put the camera on a tripod.
