Visions of the Eclipse - Oregon Coast
I don't recall exactly when I first learned there would be a total solar eclipse coming to the United States, probably close to if not over a year ago now. And I don't remember when I decided my target location would be Newport Oregon, but it was some time not too long after that. It helped, of course, that my folks have a summer home in the area, and thus I had visited and explored the central Oregon coast quite a bit in years past and could quickly visualize what my ideal Oregon Coast eclipse photo would look like.
Fate, and weather, it seems would have other ideas. That and no small part my desire not to have 9 months of planning go completely out the window, I did not, in fact, shoot the eclipse from Yaquina Bay. Ultimately I would venture an hour inland, up in the hills of the coastal range where I had much lower risk of a last minute fog bank spoiling the experience. Yet, my desire to present the eclipse as I envisioned it months and months ago remained.
With several hundred frames of the eclipse in hand, and one of my favorite photos of the Yaquina Bay Bridge to date both taken on this most recent trip, I have decided to blend them together to represent what the eclipse may have looked like standing out on the dunes looking back at the bay. Sun travel, location, and sequence should all be 'in the ballpark' as they would have been on Monday morning. I hope you enjoy.
