Location
This photo was taken at Little Qualicum river falls in British Columbia, Canada, in the pacific rainforest. Beautiful part of the world.Time
I walked in around noon and explored many locations, there are a million amazing spots to photograph here. I stumbled across this area around 1:30 pm when the lighting was just right.Lighting
It was the early afternoon and slightly overcast, but the light was shining through the top the narrow gully perfectly lighting a fallen log that was suspended above the water, and made the falls glow. The dew on the banks glistened livening up the image.Equipment
This was shot with my Canon EOS 77D with the Canon kit lens 18-55mm, I shot it off a tripod with a 13/10 shutter speed, I came unprepared and did not have my filters with me so I had to max out my f-stop to get the long exposure.Inspiration
I am a Vancouver Islander and love this part of the world, our jungle, the rainforest here always inspires me. There are photo opportunities every way you turn.Editing
Yes, I did some color balancing and increased the saturation in the foliage. I also sharpened the fallen log and the falls. To finish it off I added a subtle dark vignette. In my camera bag
I have my EOS 77D, a nifty fifty 1.8, a 75-300 mm lens and the 18-55mm kit lens. I usually have my filters, an adjustable ND filter and a polarizer, and of course my lens pen.Feedback
Bring an umbrella it rains a lot, check the weather forecast as it can be difficult to get some good light in there. Don't forget your ND filter like I did! Bring some good shoes and a sturdy tripod and you should be good to go! I love doing long exposure shots.
