It was an awesome experience to see the eclipse! This was my first time seeing or shooting one. I was a bit unprepared, as I started planning the week before... It was difficult to find any filters. Instead, I took the glass out of my welding helmet and attempted to rig it to the end of my 200-500mm. The images were all distorted and wouldn't focus. So, a bit risky but this was done with no filter (not recommended!). I got the focus dialed in and then took it off auto, and would quickly move the camera into the angle for a fraction of a second, shoot, and move it away.

The welding glass was perfect for viewing without a camera, so I watched most of the eclipse through it. In order to get the trees and the rocks in the foreground, I found a spot in the North Cascades with a very steep slope facing SE. My goal in photographing the eclipse was to capture it in relation to some other object. This is taken near Twin Lakes off hwy 542 in northern Washington.
