Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Sunset cliffs in San Diego, CA.

Time

I shot it right after sunset

Lighting

Sun was already gone, but I Stil tried my luck even though the sky was already full of clouds.

Equipment

The shot was taken with a Canon 5D Mark iii and the 24-70 2.8 ii. To get some movement into the water I used a tripod to get a longer exposure.

Inspiration

I wanted to have a picture of that arch in the rock in the first place. So I mounted my cam on the tripod and did some exposures. Actually I waited some time, because I didn’t want the people in my shot, but they wouldn’t move. So I just had the shot with these guys in.

Editing

In postprocessing i first converted the pic to black and white. Then I wanted to cut out the people, but as I did so, something was missing. The picture went boring. So I decided to leave them in. I love how this turned out in the end.

In my camera bag

Normally I have my 5D mark iii, the 24-70 2.8 ii, a wide angle lens and sometimes a tele. Of course there are some ND filters, remote controls etc as well

Feedback

Capture the moment. I wanted to take a landscape shot, but what’s a landscape without the people living in it and enjoying it. If I have learned one thing in landscape photography, it’s that people make photos interesting, not only pure landscape. Try it out! Take a picture of a beautiful landscape without a person and then put yourself with remote control in the shot. You will definitely see a big difference. It’s the ‚point of the i‘ in the picture
