This picture reminds me of the day, on my honeymoon 24 years ago, that I stood in this memorial. I’m a Canadian, and while my grandfather was in WW1, I had no family memory of Pearl Harbour nor was the attack etched into my country’s psyche. I have never been so profoundly effected standing over that grave, and only once since felt anything similar....reading the notes pinned to the fence surrounding the World Trade Center site as it was being cleared. These places define loss and sacrifice.
