This image was taken in the highlands of Japan. This is the most northern location that these Macaque can be found giving them the nickname snow monkeys. I spent two days shoots these amazing creatures and on the second day I was lucky enough to have some heavy snowfall throughout the shoot. I came away with some great images but I love the mood of this one. The expression on the face of the animal being groomed while sitting in the hot springs is just pure contentment.

Keep you depth of field shallow but play around to make sure you get enough of the foreground and background. Time is always best when working with animals, the more time you spend watching them the more likely you are to capture a unique moment. Always look at your background not just your subject, it can help to highlight your subject and add mood to rhe image.
