Happened to be in Singapore on its National Day last week and I decided to end a few months of neglect to my camera and photography. I dusted my camera and tripod and then headed to one of my favourite spots to capture Singapore skyline and fireworks. I was also lucky to get some nice sunset shots before the night falls. (I may work on that picture next if time permits)
This location may not be the best to get the fireworks as it's relatively far from the actual place of celebrations and the point of view was from the side of the arrangement of fireworks. But it was still my favourite among free locations and you don't need to fight for tripod space with the crowds too.
I had to walk a couple of kilometres carrying something like 15kg of gears on my back to reach there. Then, positioned my tripod and waited for another 3.5 hours under the sun before actual actions and shooting started. Then another couple of kilometres walk back again after the show to get to the public transport station.
Post processing and editing of this photo is another story. It wasn't an easiest one to process it. I had to use 3-4 exposures and multiple blending process to get the base layer of right sky, buildings and water the way I wanted. Then the fireworks are the results of another 4-5 shots composited. After months of not in touch with my editing tools, my processing workflow was rather rusty and slow too. It took another few hours to finish this photo.
After all, I'm happy with my finished product, at least for now. I'm still trying to improve and after a couple years later, I may want to do it a different way. Who knows .....!
