We have completed the river trip with an exciting splash through the waves in the open ocean and now have to haul the canoe a long way up the low tide beach. Once, when i was young and the canoe had not gained weight as it aged i could have picked it up and thrown it on my shoulders. Today we find sticks and lay them down as skids and haul the canoe to a high stump where i can prop it up and get underneath for the lift and carry to the car. As we get older we get smarter ( in some things :))
