While visiting Out of Africa this Nilgai was posing for us. Our visit was an unforgettable Experience!

Nilgai: Boselaphus tragocamelus

NILGAI are native to northeastern Pakistan, lowland areas of southern Nepal, and peninsular India. They have been successfully introduced to Italy near Rome (but were extirpated there during World War II), South Africa, the southern United States (Texas), and northern Mexico.

In their native range in India and Nepal, Nilgai prefer level to rolling terrain with scattered short trees and bush interspersed with open grasslands.

Only male Nilgai have horns. These are typically short, black, smooth, and nearly straight. Both sexes have tails that are white below and white patches on the throat, cheeks, and lips, as well as a white ring above and a white ring below the fetlock.

Out of Africa Wildlife Park:

You will see animals up close in large spacious habitats. Out of Africa Wildlife Park strives to educate and entertain, to provide an exciting and engaging opportunity to love and respect creation and creator. It is a place where family and friends gather to experience oneness with animals and each other during safaris, tours, walks, observations, and shows of wild-by-nature animals in their own, natural splendor. In this way, we hope to achieve a kind of oneness with them that will cause us to consider them to be so valuable that we cannot allow them to be lost forever. We continually provide spacious and natural living habitats for animals in need, so they can become ambassadors of their own kind. We have heeded the call of those without a voice, many of whom now border on extinction.

What to Expect:

You may be in Arizona, but you’ll feel like you’re in Africa when hitching a ride on your own African Bush Safari Tour.

Experience an interactive animal encounter that will introduce you to some of our beloved and popular animal stars ranging from furry, to feathered, to scaly. Learn fun facts and amazing animal behavior on a wide range of creatures while gaining an appreciation for the wonderment of these animals.

You’ve never seen anything like this before! Witness one or more Bengal and Siberian tigers interact in a predator-and-play relationship, romping and splashing in a large pool as they play with their care takers and various colorful toys. Tiger Splash™ has become renowned worldwide for its unique approach to interacting with wild-by-nature tigers in an aquatic play-land at the Tiger Splash Arena.

Get behind the myths, and discover the reality of the Giant Snake. Mysterious and misunderstood, the snake has a long and fascinating history. At Out of Africa Wildlife Park, you’ll discover the incredible world of the giant snake, one that disposes the Hollywood hype... a world where fear and anxiety are replaced with a new found understanding and appreciation of these remarkable and graceful creatures.

It’s one thing to read about the ferocity of predator animals when they assail, possess, and devour their food. It’s quite another to see it for yourself and hear the fearsome sounds that come through those menacing teeth. Don’t miss your chance to witness the power of lions, tigers, hyenas, and more at the Predator Feed, one of Out of Africa Wildlife Park’s most popular events.

The Wonders of Wildlife Show is a rare opportunity to see a variety of unique and exotic animals from a very different perspective – playing! As our caretakers interact with these fascinating animals, you’ll see them simply having fun. No coaxing or prodding necessary, just animals content in their element, being themselves.
