long exposure sunset picture with a big stopper. this was my first try ever since I just bought it. I didn't realise I could use bulb ( amature enough to think 30 sec was max because at first I had the long exposure NR on and it would stop after 30 sec. )

Location
I took this photo several years ago along the coast of the italian island sardegna. it's allways been a great place for a quiet holiday for me and it's a gorgeous place full of nature and beaches.Time
I remember taking this shot very well. it was the first time for me using an ND (10 stop) filter. I have allways taken pictures of the sunset while I was there, honestly I have pictures from when the camera's weren't even digital yet taken when I was about 10 years old. this was taken just after the sun went down. I had been trying to get some before but the sun would turn into a stripe as the shutter speed was quite long. this shot was taken at 8pm.Lighting
I've actually told you a bit about the lighting in the last question. This was my first time trying to take long exposure pictures with a ND 10 stop filter on my objective. there was a tiny bit of wind and the rocks were very bumby. I have a small bendable tripod and quite the heavy camera and objective so it took quite some time to put it down and at first i wouldn't really put anything on the foreground this made it rather boring pictures. second. since the sun wasn't fully down the sun at several minuts of exposure would turn into a stripe. and I never had (have) put pictures together so that wasn't the way to go. this was one of my last chances to get a pictures since my dinner was awaiting me. and the sun was just out of sight. darker skies came fast. therefor one more try. I actually thought i was getting a bit bold since this rock was quite low to the water as well. lucky the camera stayed steady and I was able to take this last shot with the sky turning redish due to the setting sun.Equipment
I used my Sony SLT-a58 camera with a 18-250mm f3.8 - 6.3 objective. screwed upon a 10stop ND filter. a small tripod. the bendable one. gorillapod I believe it was called. ( I believe it broke that very year :p ) and a remote control for the camera to keep the camera still for shooting long exposure.Inspiration
I guess this is where i loose any hope of sounding technical. this is where the heart opens. I've been to the island of sardegna for almoste half my life during the summer holidays. they would bring reall joy and peace to my mind. the sunsets was a thing I would barely miss. many times the sky would turn many colours and living in a city rich inviroment I honestly thought that didn't happen in the netherlands. I love mother nature is able to create such beauty. and I wanted to take that beauty home. I wanted to remember even better ( my own memory is kind of bad after a while ) and these will make them last. that's basically the inspiration.Editing
well yeah. it didn't come out quite like this. I had to make it quite a bit lighter. and in the darkness the colour faded so I had to retouch the colour back to what it looked like in real life. and I tried to play around with the sharpness of the stones in the front. I have to say I recently reedited this picture since somebody wants a glass plate for a wall with this picture. it did turn out a bit different. see this was the first summer I bought or used any kind of editing program and I didn't have any classes or lessons just by reading a bit on the internet and trying. ( by the way I just lightroom. )In my camera bag
Well this is quite the question. I guess there is no such thing for me at this moment. I guess because I haven't been out much. back when I shot this it might have been all I had ( the sony a58 and my sigma 18-250mm ) today I also have the sony A77ii so i prefer to take this body. the objective still is one that tags along a lot. but I guess this also has to do with the fact I don't have many options. I have a 10mm f2.8 manual objective and a 35mm f1.8. when I go to the zoo or try to find wild animals I prefer to be able to zoom. I really still hope one day i'll own better objectives. besides the camera and objective ( depending on what i want to shoot ofcourse. ) wait let's see. if I go out to try and shoot landscape or try night sky photography I take my 10mm f2.8 manual objective. my (second version) gorillapod tiny tripod. and my bigger tripod. my remote control for the camera. spare batteries and memory cards ( as many as possible ) a couple of products objective wipes and objective cleaning stuff ( honestly I forgot what it's called )Feedback
well don't be like me.. if the internet says sunset is at 7:54 PM do not go at 7:40 for starters, haha. and think about the composition before randomly shooting ( in my case I thought "hey this whole long exposure thing is new to me, let's just try " and after the long exposure part went okay but I didn't really have anyhting in the shot but a horizon and the sun ( which turned into a stripe instead of dot ) another thing to think of. it's bizarre how fast it all goes and long exposure isn't exactly shooting several shots a second. so it seemed like time was just gone. preparation is more important than you think.
