This castle, situated in the Alsace region of France - not far from Strasbourg, was first built around 1147. Its built from the iconic red sandstone which is local to the area and it's magnificent architecture pairs well with its fascinating history through the ages of mixed identity and ownership as the region was fought over by the french and the germans for many centuries. The castle has recently undergone extensive restoration works so that it almost perfectly resembles the great imposing structure that it was first built for, and allows for a fully-immersive visit.
