Tomato Cutworm

behind the lens badge

I picked him off of my tomato plant after he had totally destroyed it. At least I got a good photo of him.

Behind The Lens

Location

I was trying to raise tomato plants in my back yard. I got up one morning and saw practically all the leaves were gone from my tomato plant. I went closer to look and there was the little scoundrel. I cut the branch off that he was on to show my husband. I decided I should take a photo of the garden pest.

Time

It was in the morning time when I found him munching away on my tomato leaves.

Lighting

The cut worm was actually laying on a table on my back porch. It just so happened table sort if matched the sky. I added a little gradient blue to enhance it. The light was coming in from the south making the lighting perfect, not too light and not too dark.

Equipment

This shot was taken with my Canon Rebel 7ti with a Tamron 18 - 400mm lens, handheld no flash.Well

Inspiration

Well, I love taking macro shots of insects so it was just instinct first of all. But I wanted to save a picture of what destroyed my tomato plant.

Editing

I used Adobe Photoshop to enhance the color of the background.

In my camera bag

I normally have my bag packed and ready to go with one other lens, Canon 50mm. I have an extra battery that is charged, lens cleaner and soft cloth, UV Filter, and several memory cards.
