Love photos like this that are intoxicating, but g rated. It's not easy. Love to look at the old photos of Marilyn Monroe. Also if this model has a website, would love to see it. She might not be able to act like Marilyn. But she has everything else!!

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a private Arkansas home that was being used for a glamour/boudoir shootout featuring nearly a dozen models and photographers. Having known Miranda for awhile, it was great to finally get to shoot with her.

Time

This was taken in the early afternoon, when the light was too harsh to shoot out by the pool, so we moved indoors; seeing the natural light spilling through the window of the home's den, it was just too good to pass up.

Lighting

Ever a fan of natural light, I try to use it in my work as much as possible, and this shot was no exception. I eschewed the use of flash totally for this shot, preferring to keep the play of light and shadows like the were.

Equipment

The only equipment used for this was a Canon 5D Mark III with a 24-70mm f/2.8, the amazing light from that window, and a beautiful model. When you have tools like those at your disposal, simplicity is key.

Inspiration

The model was posing for me on a poker table in the center of the room, but the natural light spilling through the window was just too good to pass up. We turned the flashes off, stepped over to the window, opened the blinds, and just let the magic happen.

Editing

I like to keep post processing to a minimum when I can, with just a touch-up here and there, and this picture is no exception. Just a bit of healing to straighten up stray hairs and the barest hint of dodge and burn to smooth everything out.

In my camera bag

I rarely go anywhere without my Canon 5d Mark iii and a few "essential" lenses. Namely the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM, EF 85mm f/1.8 USM, and the ever present "nifty fifty," the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM. I also am known to keep the Rokinon 24mm f/1.4, along with my Vanguard Alta Pro 263AT tripod equipped with a SBH-250 ballhead, an intervalometer, and various lights and light shapers handy.

Feedback

Photography, whether color or black and white, is all about capturing light. Be thoughtful about the interplay of light and shadows when composing your shots, and don't be afraid to experiment.
