The Telamon Shipwreck was purposely ran aground in 1981 whilst the 29 crewmen were transporting logs from the Ivory Coast to the Greek port of Thessaloniki. She sprung a leak in the Aegean Sea, forcing the captain to radio Arrecife harbour for emergency assistance in fear of the vessels imminent sinking. However harbour masters feared that the ship would fail before making it into the safe area in Arrecife, blocking the ports entrance and rendering it useless. An alternative plan was therefore formed, with the Telamon being grounded in sandbanks just beyond the harbour wall. The captain and the crew were all reduced, along with the ships fuel and cargo, but the vessel was never recovered leaving it as a fascinating landmark on the Lanzarote coastline with its rust slowly expanding across her bow.

We decided to spend our last sunset in Lanzarote shooting the Telamon Shipwreck after reading about the location in the Photographing Lanzarote ebook. This location didn't disappoint with the suns setting rays lighting up the old rusting vessel and giving it a magical glow. Unfortunately the cloud cover then came and limited our golden hour shots as the dense clouds rose over Lanzarote volcanos and blocked a lot of the light. Let us know what you think and look out for the rest of our photos from our trip to Lanzarote being posted over the next few week!
