Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was taken at Lavender Valley Farm, located in the Hood River Valley, Oregon.
Time
This was a very special day because it was my husband's and my 39th wedding anniversary. I had been wanting to go photograph the lavender fields in Oregon but my work schedule had not allowed until this day. It was July 8th, 2017 at 9:42 am. We decided to make a day of driving to Mt. Hood and incorporating a trip to Lavender Valley. It was our first time visiting this farm. We arrived before they even opened the gate as I wanted the opportunity to capture as many photographs as I could before too many people were there. When the gates opened, I raced around like a photographer on a mission looking for the perfect spot. This was it.
Lighting
It was a very clear, sunny Summer day, with no clouds in the sky. The sun was up fairly high already, even though it was only mid-morning. It was pretty bright outside and the view of Mt. Hood in the distance was very clear as a result.
Equipment
I used my Nikon D810 camera alternating between several different lenses while photographing the lavender fields. For this photo, I used my Nikon 24-120 lens. I did not use a tripod for this shot and rarely use them except for night photography.
Inspiration
The inspiration for this photograph was a photo I had seen on Viewbug some time back of a lavender field. I was smitten and wanted to photograph them as well. What makes this lavender field unique is the little shed and Mt. Hood in the distance. What an amazing view!
Editing
There is some minor post processing done in LR and PSE to bring out the colors and clarity.
In my camera bag
My bag includes my Nikon D810 camera. a variety of Nikon lenses, spare charged battery, flashlight. SD cards, cleaning wipes and cloths, my phone and my hairbrush.
Feedback
My advice for capturing lavender fields, is change up your point of view. Try bending low, standing up, standing between rows and so forth to see what perspective gives you the look you want to capture. For this photo, I stood right over one of the rows in order to capture the shed at the end of it in the distance.
