Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo about 100m from my house when I was heading deep in the forest at Runmarö island in Sweden

Time

It was Summer (where I live it can get dark around 23:00 to 2:00) and I took the photo around 19:00

Lighting

This was an unexpected encounter, I had my camera in manual mode and the light was not the best, so I had to make fast adjustments to get a good exposure, I ended shooting at f2.8, ISO 1250 it could be much higher, but I decided to shoot just at 1/320s enough for me to shoot handheld without getting blur motion as moose usually do not make fast or suddenly movements.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D500 with a 70-200 f2.8 VRii, handheld shoot, no flash

Inspiration

I just love wildlife photography

Editing

I used Lightroom to make some minor changes,

In my camera bag

I use a lowepro Pro Trekker 650 AW I usually pack a Nikon D500 Nikon 14-24 f2,8 Nikon 60 f2,8 micro Nikon 70-200 f2,8 vrii Sigma 500 f4.5 APO Nikon TC-14EIII Triopo G2508 with a Mantona TK-II gimbal

Feedback

This photo was a lucky encounter, But I think it’s very important to study the behavior, diet and habitat of any wildlife you attempt to photograph, best time for me is in the mornings before-during sunrise and afternoon during sunset and few hour later, animals usually get more active and the light is nicer at those hours, tripods with gimbal are wonderful if you have long lenses but if you don’t have or use one, it’s important to know your own limits for shoot handheld, the lowest ISO you use the better results you get. The last and probably the most important is to be patient.
