This water tower represents a time gone by to many people in this area. It was a time when "Cotton was King." Bemis was a little town in itself made by the owner of the cotton mill. You worked in the mill; you could rent one of the houses. When the cotton mill closed down, people could buy their house dirt cheap. Most of those houses still stand today.
