Some images work best in colour, it has a function, and here in the shadows below the sandstone cliff there is a blue cast on the tree trunk from the sky light and that is a useful contrast to the warmth of the sun and local colour of the rock behind. Of course the green of the foliage also works against the red rock and the tree also shows life in this desert environment. Combine these contrasts with the twisting curves of the trunk set against the vertical lines of the cliff face and there is a built-in vitality to the design. I am an observer and photography encourages me to become a more acute one.
