I have been on that road, and it's beautiful. Did you stop for ice cream?

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on the way to Homer Alaska along the Turnagain arm.

Time

We has pulled over for a bathroom break, after taking a little walk about 10 minutes from the car we came upon this view. We waited about 20 minutes and was rewarded with this beautiful sunset.

Lighting

Very dark and overcast day, but the sun broke through just enough to add enough light to balance the dark clouds.

Equipment

This shot was taken with a Nikon d7000, with our backup lens Nikon 18-135 3.5---5.6. settings were iso 320 f 16 at 1/30 shutter speed hand held (tripod was in the car) as we were only stopping for a bathroom break.

Inspiration

Every thing about Alaska is inspiring. There are photo ops around every bend and every curve.

Editing

This photo was taken using brackets, and processed with Photomatix pro 5.

In my camera bag

Every trip is a little different. This trip was before we added few more lenses and bodies. In my bag for this trip was my favorite lens Nikon 70-200 2.8. D7000 d80 and the Nikon 70-300

Feedback

When in a place like Alaska, try to be ready for great photo ops, even when you are going from point a to point b. In this case we were only stopping for a bathroom break, but did not leave the car without our camera. I was not even going to get this shot as i had left the tripod in the car and I do 99% of my landscape with the tripod. You usually do not do H-D-R without a tripod but after takeing a few shots with correct exposure, I decided to try a few brackets So the advice would be, always be looking for the photo op, and don't be afraid to break the photography rules
