Simple and highly effective.
The dark grime and ghostly white of the nails, along with the almost menacing reach of the hand, is imposing and eerie.
By showing only a hint of the man, it is as if the begging hand has taken on a life of it's own, further eclipsing the subject into darker days.
Excellent cropping, DOF, and use of contrast and vignetting in editing.
