Natural Bridges State Park at night. The Milky Way came up at a reasonable hour (10:30PM I've often had to shoot at 4:00am). We've had a bit of a heat wave so the weather was kind too. The glow on the horizon is from the Monterey Penninsula across the bay.

Location
I've been to "Natural Bridges" state park many times. It's a favorite beach and only a short drive from home. Sometimes the night skies can be iffy living on the coast. Even when the daytime skies are clear, the evening fog can come in and blot out the stars. But this night, the sky remained pretty clear. The Milky Way aligned nicely over the remaining "Natural Bridge" There used to be more bridges like this, but the sea claimed them.Time
I think this was around 7:00pm(ish) sometime around mid July.Lighting
Ambient light. The glow is the from the city of Monterey across the Bay.Equipment
25 second exposure @ ISO 6400 Canon 5DmIII, with a 14mm Rokinon f2.8 on a tripod. Wireless Yongnuo shutter remote.Inspiration
I wanted to take advantage of the early rising Milky Way.Editing
Yes, of course. I'm an old school Photoshop user. I brought up a little of the highlights and toned down some of the ambient glow. It's been a while since I shot and edited this image, but typically I also add a little tweek using NIK.In my camera bag
Canon L 24-105, Rokinon 2.8 14mm lens, Canon 1.8 50mm, Cokin filters, Yongnuo wireless shutter release,Feedback
Check the tides before you go. Be safe and never turn your back to the waves. Wear kayak booties and accept that occasional waves will wash up on the shore. Unless it's a big wave (Grab & RUN!) you'll want to stay with your camera. Check what time you can expect the Milky Way to rise. It varies and sometimes doesn't rise till the middle of the night. Keep your pack light and then wear it. I've seen sneaker waves wash up and swamp photo bags before. Make sure your flash light batteries are fresh. Be safe!
