Right outside my front door I have two lovely Japanese Acer bushes. I am not the best person for having the time to keep my garden well manicured, in fact I prefer the wilder look. Some ferns I planted some years ago have a habit of growing up through the bush and can get quite leggy and spindly.....cue the ladybird. There it was !! exploring a newly unfurling frond so as it was such a nice summer evening i grabbed my camera.Time
I took the photo early evening just after 6.30. The sun was still out and it was a lovely still evening. Not too bright and the bokeh backdrop of my evergreen Acuba bushes was perfectLighting
I did contemplate various other angles to perhaps get the evening sun in the shot but with the sun behind me and the green backdrop, the lighting was perfect as it was. Sometimes I think you just need to go with it and take the shot rather than flaff aboutEquipment
My camera was a Nikon D5300 with a 18-55 VR lens, hand held and no flash, just a UV FilterInspiration
I love nature and I like the way colours stand out so vividly with the right background. I enjoyed watching the ladybird rummage around and as I had never taken a photo of one before it was an ideal opportunityEditing
I open all my images in Photoshop but on this occasion no editing apart from the frame sizeIn my camera bag
I normally carry a standard 18-55 lens and a telephoto lens with a few basic filtersFeedback
It is hard to give advice on a shot that is done on an impulse but i guess the advice is right there !! Be impulsive, go with your instincts and just keep trying. There is always one shot that will turn out to be something you are really proud of
