“Everybody knows” – al least after having been in Portugal – that “bacalhau” is the national food, using people to say that there are one hundred ways of cooking the delicacy. To be honest, I think that there are a lot more.
At least since the XIV century that Portuguese boats fish codfish in the North Atlantic sea, which is after salted and dried – and, the experts say, no one can prepare the codfish as the Portuguese do.
This means there cannot be a stay in Portugal without tasting “bacalhau”, at least once in any of the hundreds of ways. One of the most popular recipe is “Bacalhau à Braz”, that has in Alentejo a small variation, reason why changes the name to “Golden Bacalhau” (Bacalhau Dourado). Yes, it will be served to us, but – to be in accordance with the old tradition – under ceilings with more than 500 years (see next pics).
One reason more to join us in our “Golden Alentejo Photo-tour” (see Allegria Eventos facebook page https:--www.facebook.com-Allegria-Eventos-211242819383080- )

Well, Fausto, I think I can write in Portuguese: primeiro, adoro o Alentejo, bacalhau e adorei a Pousada dos Lóios, onde estive mais do que uma vez. A comida alentejano é fantástica. O Bacalhau dourado (ou à Brás) é um dos meus favoritos. Por isso tudo, parabéns pela escolha! Boa sorte. Good luck!
