Photo taken by my husband. He never takes photos when we travel. Gave him my old canon powershot 720 to use. We went for a hike on Stewart Canyon Trail around lake Minnewanka, Banff, Alberta. We made it to the bridge and could not go any further due to area closed to bears. We were about to turn back only to be trapped at the end of the bridge by this bear strolling towards us. Well, what to do? As there were a couple of girls with a dog on the bridge we had to get out of there fast. So, over the fence we climbed (husband stopped to take the photo) and retreated along the top the of the canyon wall and hid the best we could. Now, on the way, one of the girls bumped me and I tripped slightly. Yes, I was just holding my Nikon d5500 in my right hand and, yes, I dropped it. I watched it smash onto the rock face and disappear down to the river below. The bear ambled off in the opposite direction which is what we were all hoping for. Very expensive hike. Bought a new camera and lens once we got back to town.

I was shooting this winter in Columbia River Gorge, when, with camera in hand I fell, breaking my wrist. Luckily, I did not lose my grip!

Glad you made it out unscathed (except for your camera)! You came away with a great picture and story to go with it! Thanks for the awards!
