Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at the Mugello Autodrome during the "MotoGP" Grand Prix of Italy 2017 at the first corner on the right after the arrival retilineum

Time

The photo was taken on June 21, at 1:45 pm after a stakeout near the curve to find the most suitable point for shooting and away from the protective tires to avoid the glare of heat on the track that would blur the photo.

Lighting

In the case of pictures of this kind, it is necessary to avoid positioning near the protective tires at the edge of the track. The heat of the asphalt (with a telephoto lens) creates a sort of blur on the image. If we put the objective above the tires, the heat increases, the reverberation due to heat increases, and the photo seems to move even if (in reality) the move is not. Freehand shooting and natural light

Equipment

Nikon D5 with 70-200 2.8 with Nikon focal duplicator. 1/1000, ISO 500, F10, focal 550mm. Freehand shooting.

Inspiration

The "fold" of the motorcyclists in this deer is particularly accentuated and the point of recovery (light raised) was ideal for the type of framing I wanted and for the shot that I wanted to achieve. Even though I am a fan of Valentino Rossi, the beauty of the colors of the Honda inspired me enormously

Editing

At the post production level, I only developed the raw file and then I sharpened the sharpness with Photoshop. Finally I cropped the photo slightly. Nothing more.

In my camera bag

When I go to take sports pictures in my bag there is always the specific attractiveness of the Nikon D5; Nikon 70-200 with Nikon doubler (2x); Tamron 150-600; tripod and mono foot. Normally I also bring the D850 with 24-70 Nikon.

Feedback

I would like to recommend what was written above about the lighting. It 'a basic thing that (in my first shots) have spoiled the photos. I repeat here what was mentioned: In the case of pictures of this kind, it is necessary to avoid positioning near the protective tires at the edge of the track. The heat of the asphalt (with a telephoto lens) creates a sort of blur on the image. If we put the objective above the tires, the heat increases, the reverberation due to heat increases, and the photo seems to move even if (in reality) the move is not. Freehand shooting and natural light
