Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was taken in Joshua Tree CA. We drove that old truck right into the middle of the desert.
Time
We shot at sunset
Lighting
Natural lighting
Equipment
This was shot on Canon 5D Mark II with a 50mm 1.4 lens No tripod or flash
Inspiration
This photo was a part of a series I did for Array photo journal. The theme was neon/desert daze. We were asked to interpret these themes. I imagined Alexis (model shown) as a “fallen ingenue” trying to escape a city life full of problems. The buzz of neon is the noise that she came to the desert to escape, but in the desert, there is a certain electricity to the stillness-the voltage is high, the volume is up and the silence is deafening. The neon is inescapable.
Editing
I used Affinity and Lightroom to edit this photo. I shoot in color then edit for black and white. I love to play with shadows and contrast.
In my camera bag

Feedback
Joshua Tree at sunset is absolutely stunning! It almost looks like another planet. There are so many creative places to shoot. We drove around Joshua Tree off the beaten path until we found our location. Just get out there and explore!
