Ten years ago we brought a new kitten into our home. Shortly afterwards we found him behind some pillows, peeking at us. Couldn't resist the look on his face.Time
The shot was taken many years ago, but I believe it was later in the day and somewhat dark in the room. I rushed to get the camera for a couple of handheld exposures, so it's lucky I was able to capture him so sharply.Lighting
There was absolutely nothing special about the lighting. All the light came from room lights, so in the color version there was a nice warm color cast.Equipment
Nikon D700 with a 17-35mm Nikkor lens. No tripod, no flash, just handheld using room lights.Inspiration
Shortly after bringing Bear home he disappeared. After searching hi and low, we found him hiding behind pillows in the bedroom. The expression on his face provided all the inspiration for the shot. I was just lucky he held still long enough for me to take a couple of exposures.Editing
This was such a long time ago, I don't really remember what I did in post. I really don't think there was a lot I had to do. I converted the image to black and white version and more than likely brought my exposure up just a bit due to the poor lighting, worked on his eyes a little and added a vignette. That's about it.In my camera bag
My bag contains: Nikon D800E, 17-35mm Nikkor lens, 85mm Nikkor prime, 28mm Nikkor prime, 160mm macro, Really Right Stuff ball head, Really Right Stuff focusing rail, Nikon remote release, lens cloth, spare batteries and probably other stuff I don't use.Feedback
I'm not sure I have any great advice because this was a shoot from the hip moment.
