This is the popular and iconic Tunnel View at Yosemite National Park. I try to go 3-4 times a year and the view is different every time.Time
I usually get to the park around 3 am. I took a nap in the parking lot and took some sunrise photos here. For this, I came back in the early afternoon. There's usually a crowd because well look at it, I like to find places off the beaten path to find a new and different point of view than everyone else taking a postcard photo.Lighting
Make the light you have work. I love "golden hour and blue hour and all that but if you're driving 5 hours each way shoot all you can. Make your light work!Equipment
I shoot a Sony A7r. I shot this photo with my go-to Sony 16-35 4.0 I own two carbon fiber tripods. They're so cheap that I don't think they have a brand name. I don't have a big budget so I use what works. It's a tripod, not rocket science.Inspiration
Look at it. If you're not inspired by Yosemite than you must be dead! My entire nervous system reboots when I cross over the gate. I breath easier and I smile. My body feels younger.Editing
I bracket EVERYTHING. So, I always have a handle on correct exposure. I shoot a lot of HDR photography because it gives me so much to work with. I process everything I shoot. In my camera bag
The above-mentioned camera and lens. I also carry a Sony 24-240mm lens and a nifty-fifty Sony 50mm 1.8, In addition, I carry a Haida 10 nd neutral density system for long exposure photos. Yosemite is famous for its waterfalls, and a neutral density filter, with no color cast, is essential. Two different remote triggers.Feedback
I usually go to the park for a day trip. If you can, go for as long as you can. Days, weeks, months! I'm serious. You won't shoot the same thing twice. Different times of day and moving the camera to get different points of view will make your effort totally worthwhile. I would live there full time if I could.
