Behind The Lens

Location

Sardinia, Torre del Porticciolo, in the fantastic east coast, between Capo Caccia and Argentiera, east of Alghero

Time

August 29, 2009 at 6:21 PM a few hours before sunset

Lighting

Light shining, near sunset, strong wind and clear sky

Equipment

Very strangely a Nikon Coolpix S210, I normally use only Canon, without stand, without flash. To minimize noise, I kept low ISO (64)

Inspiration

The sea beneath the maestral wind creates fantastic long waves crashing on the cliff

Editing

Just a slight touch to the "levels", using Photoshop, to fine-tune the vividness

In my camera bag

I currently have three "little girls" so I call the cameras: For serious jobs (and when I have space): Canon EOS 40D; Canon EF 70-200mm f1:4 L USM (Very fast in the focus and very sharp); Canon EF 28-70mm f1:2.8 L USM (my favorite MY 2000 (!!)); Canon EF 17-40mm F1:4 L USM; Canon Speedlite 430EX (I do not like to use the flash); Giottos tripod MH-1003 (with his bag, compact and light); Lowepro Computrekker AW; Lowepro EX180 (very compact but...). For backup Canon EOS 300D Digital with standard lens 18-55. Always in the pocket the little Canon PowherShot G16 (f1:1.8 !!) Not in this shot for which I used my wife's compact Nikon

Feedback

To photograph the stormy waves there are two ways: long times to emphasize movement, or fast times for an "sharp" shot. Not having the tripod I chose the second way.
