On our first full day at Kambaku Safari Lodge located in the game rich Big Five Timbavati Nature Reserve in the Greater Kruger National Park region of South Africa, a pride of lions we were following had detected the smell of a Cape Buffalo herd. The lions were resting but immediately went into hunting mode A few ran among the herd and dragged out a young Cape Buffalo. The little Cape Buffalo became a feast for the pride of lions, but only after a chaotic battle between the male Cape Buffalos who came to save the young buffalo and the pride of lions. Our excellent guides positioned us for great shots but were also very diligent about our safety. It was the most emotional and exciting thing we ever experienced. We know this is life in the wild, but we were also sad for the Buffalos. We will never forget this adventure!
