This common shrub of the Chihuahuan Desert (Koeberlinia spinosa) is one of several similar shrubs in the deserts of the American Southwest. All are called Crucifixion Thorn, Allthorn, or Crown of Thorns. All have very reduced or absent leaves, with the green twigs photosynthesizing.
