Behind The Lens

I travelled to Praque to meet my grandson and took the opportunity to capture some awesome photos of him.
The photo was taken in the morning after he woke up, he didn't look very impressed but I was able to capture the light in his eyes. To me it is all about the eyes.
The baby boy was lying on a bed close to a window with lots of natural light was coming in.
I used my Canon 5D Mark ii with a flash. the photo was taken with a Canon 50mm 1.8 prime lens, I did not use a tripod instead the camera was hand held.
My grandson was 5 months old and I was fortunate to be able to travel to the Czech Republic to meet him for the very first time. His eyes was so blue and I really wanted to capture the light in his eyes. I feel blessed that I was able to meet him and take beautiful photos of him at that age.
I did some post-processing by correcting the White Balance and adding a bit of light to his eyes.
In my camera bag
Since I have taken this photo, I upgraded to a Canon 5D Mark iv the most important lenses in my camera bag are my Canon 50mm EF 1:1.4 Prime Lens, the lens that I use mostly for Landscapes is my Canon Zoom Lens EF 17:40mm 1:4 L USM lens, I also use a Canon Zoom Lens EF 70 - 300mm 1:4-5.6 IS USM Lens, I sometimes use this lens to capture portraits, it gives a nice blurry background. As space is limited in my camera bag, I make sure that I lease have one Flash with me, and I always make sure that I have spare batteries. I usually have my tripod with me as well.
When capturing portraits, it is important to focus on the eyes, to me it is all in the eyes, if the model isn't looking straight into the camera, then focus on the eye closest to the camera. It is very rewarding when you get a clear shot of the eyes, to me the eyes are well captured and focussed on if it looks a bit see-through . It is hard to get the eyes clear in post-processing.
