These wandering albatross were performing a courtship display on Bird Island, South Georgia - a small and remote island that only scientists get to visit and I was lucky enough to spend 18 months on. The wanderers are on the island to some degree year round, courting in the spring, laying in the summer, and the eggs hatch a few months later. The chicks take around 9 months to fledge, sitting resolutely amongst the winter snow, waiting for their parents to return with food.
