This seal pup was so appealing , just hanging out on the rocks. I liked this pose because it looks like it is looking out to sea (which it was) and shading it's eyes. It did, later, slip into the shallow water. The terrain there is very rough and rocky, and the waves can be quite forceful. But this little one seemed quite at ease in this harsh environment.Editing
I probably used Photoshop to enhance the sharpness and crop the picture, but not much else. This was taken in August 2011, so I don't remember much about what I did with it.In my camera bag
The camera I used for this photo was replaced with a Panasonic GH3, but I still have the same lens. I mostly use it for movies now. My usual equipment at present is Nikon D500 or D850 with a 500 f/5.6 lens. I hand hold my cameras 99 % of the time- because with birds and wildlife, they are always on the move and can be up or down where it would take too much time to adjust a tripod. Plus I travel as light as possible-I use a Black Rapid strap for my cameras.Feedback
You just need to be out there with camera in hand and always looking around, always ready to capture the moment. I have favorite places where I am pretty sure I'll find something of interest- this place, Halibut Point in Rockport Mass. , is one of them. Lots of interesting terrain, beautiful ocean views, and abundant birds, rabbits and occasional seals.
