Waited for wind to calm down
After a snack break, a couple of friends and I jumped into the pool. I wanted to get a full frontal shot of Navajo Falls. Considering the fact that you have to carry your camera and a tripod in the almost chest deep water at one point, although it’s mostly waist deep, I didn’t think it would encourage many photographers to do just that. Especially without any help. The water was slightly on the colder side although it was sunny (because it was still morning), especially when we got closer to the falls. The thick mist was swirling in the air and often slapped our faces with big washes of vapor. Finding the spot to frame the entire waterfalls involved a slow and laborious walk across the slimy and sticky bottom of the pool. At one point, this mud quicksand that I stepped in wouldn’t let go of my leg. I almost lost balance trying to pull it out. Thankfully, my friend came to rescue. In the end, the view of the waterfalls from the far ledge of the pool, just inches away from a big drop into another pool below, was just worth every ounce of effort. I then composed my shot and waited for the wind to calm down a bit.
